High on Glacier Peak is the corpse, or perhaps the ghost, of the Benson Glacier. For more information about this vanished landmark, go to Whitebark View. This is in the heart of the Eagle Cap Wilderness in Oregon's beautiful Wallowa Mountains, an area submerged by a 330 square mile ice cap until very recently. It was by far the largest system of ice age glaciers in eastern Oregon. The place looks like it has just emerged from this covering of ice, an appearance which is consistent with the reality.
