Matterhorn West Wall
The biggest sheer cliff in Oregon--1,200 vertical feet of marble (metamorphosed limestone)-- has been climbed but is not climbed often. A bivouac in hammocks was required during its first ascent in 1974. This route was then and might still be Oregon"s only Grade V rock climb. Photographed here with a 4x5 camera from Hawk Lake.
