Teepee and Chief Joseph Mountain
This modern-day teepee sits on the glacial moraine damming Oregon's Wallowa Lake, a location that the Chief Joseph Band of the Nez Perce Indians regarded as a favorite summer camp. Chief Joseph Mountain in the background is situated in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. According to some accounts, Chief Joseph was born at Wallowa Lake in 1840. Other accounts suggest his birthplace was actually a cave at the mouth of Joseph Canyon.
