Big Lichened Boulder

A magnificent boulder of granite graces the crest of the East Moraine above northeast Oregon's glacial Wallowa Lake. The classic summit of Mt. Bonneville in the distance points toward the source of the two large valley glaciers that flowed out of the Wallowa Mountains in what is now the Eagle Cap Wilderness and then melted back, leaving behind this landscape perhaps as recently as 17,000 years ago according to the latest geological research. Photographed on 4x5.
